Skeptical of the education value

I get the feeling that the age rankings provided in the parents corner on this app are kind of like those online IQ tests, that they are just there to make you feel good and that your child is progressing.
My take on the apps system is that it is like the schools that over value standardized tests and teach to these tests instead of teaching. Basically, the kids get good at this app, but nothing translates to actual skills of value.
Or maybe Im too skeptical that my 4.4 year old is functioning at an eight year old level.
